Lab Tests
Functional health labs allow for a more holistic, detailed, personalized testing that can help uncover the root causes of illness, manage chronic diseases, optimize performance, and prevent future health problems. This approach allows the treating of the whole person—body, mind, and environment—rather than just focusing on treating symptoms. By completing labs, we can use results to uncover root causes and move forward with a personalized plan toward healing.
Food Sensitivity Test
Even with a healthy diet, it's possible for your body to exhibit what's called an IgG reaction to certain foods. Unlike typical food allergies, looking at IgG reactions can single out the foods that are causing hidden immune reactions 24-72 hours after you eat. If you suspect that certain health concerns may be related to food, this at-home lab will test sensitivity levels (mild, moderate or severe) to 190 common foods. By taking this test, you will be provided with comprehensive insight on which foods to avoid in order to keep your body functioning at its best.
Cortisol/Adrenal Test
Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced in your adrenal glands. It can affect your body in a number of ways, including how your body responds to stress. When balanced, your cortisol levels will fluctuate throughout the day, starting higher in the morning, and getting lower in the evening. If your cortisol levels are too low in the morning or too high in the evening, it can have a negative impact on everything from your energy levels to your immune health. Looking at your cortisol levels at just one point during the day will not provide the full picture, which is why we've created a simple but comprehensive test that looks at your levels throughout the day.
Toxic Heavy Metals Test
Do you ever feel like you aren't quite as sharp as you once were? Your brain feels foggy, you experience frequent headaches, low mood or seem to forget things more easily, and you're not sure why? Even if you know you've been exposed, you might not have considered that heavy metals may be to blame for your unexplained challenges. Many people may write off these health issues as part of aging, but high or prolonged exposure to heavy metals like mercury and cadmium, or an imbalance of toxic elements can cause a range of health challenges. By confirming your levels of exposure with a simple at-home lab test, you can finally get the answers you've been searching for.
Mineral & Metals Test
If you feel stressed, tired, anxious or overwhelmed it could be a sign your nervous system is strained. Minerals include electrolytes, which provide the energy you need to get through the day, as well as buffer the effects of stress. The Mineral & Metals Test takes a comprehensive look at adrenal function; the body's stress support system, as well as toxic metal exposure. If mineral reserves are low, electrolytes imbalanced or if you've been exposed to high levels of toxic metals you won't be able to deal with stress effectively and may experience a range of health challenges.
Big 3 Gut Labs
This lab package includes the Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test, the Food Sensitivity Test, and the Gut Bacteria & Parasite Test.
Food Sensitivity Test
IgG food sensitivity testing is different than typical food allergy testing that looks for severe, life-threatening or immediate food reactions. In my practice, I let people know that I don't see a need to test for foods that you already know you get hives, headaches, low energy, moodiness, or acne from. This state-of-the-art lab specializes in analyzing small droplets of blood that you place on a card and mail in. Your blood will then be tested against 190 of the most common foods, and provide you with a personalized analysis of which foods you are mildly, moderately, and highly reactive to. This is the simplest and most straightforward way to get the results you need to begin making positive health changes in your life (or your children's).
Gut Bacteria & Parasite Test
GI Screens are applicable to all patients, especially those with chronic illness and digestive problems. The test is used to identify Ova & parasites x 3 (Trichrome stain) plus antigens to Giardia lamblia, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Helicobacter pylori. Occult blood. Visual and automated identification of bacteria, including, but not limited to: Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Enterococcus, Escherichia, Klebsiella, Proteus, and Pseudomonas. Visual and automated identification of yeast, including, but not limited to Candida.
Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test
This lab test is easily the most under-rated lab for looking at the deepest root cause level of why you're not feeling well. The Complete Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins Test provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria. Abnormally high levels of these microorganisms can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, fatigue and immune function. Many people with chronic illnesses and neurological disorders often excrete several abnormal organic acids.
Big 5 Labs
These 5 labs are Dr. Cabral's highest recommendation, with each lab offering a unique perspective of assessing the body and how specific underlying imbalances may be holding you back from achieving your optimal level of health, including deficiencies and toxicities.
Labs tests included are: Minerals & Metals; Candida, Metabolic & Vitamins; Omega-3 & Inflammation; Food Sensitivity; Mood & Metabolism.
Minerals & Metals Test
By examining your mineral imbalances this lab looks at the deeper underlying root causes, which are keeping you from feeling well again. This lab also helps you discover your heavy metal toxicity and mineral levels. Because of its price and comprehensive assessment, the Complete Minerals & Metals Test is my personal choice for getting started in Functional Medicine lab testing. You can complete the lab right at home by taking just a few snippets of hair from the back of your head.
By now most people know how important it is to reduce inflammation in their body. But, very few people actually test their levels to see how healthy their Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratios actually are. This lab allows you to look deep into your blood to see how you measure up and how balanced you really are. Research shows that if you have a 9% or greater saturation rate in your blood of Omega-3s, then you're 90% less likely to die from sudden cardiac death.* The reason why this statistic exists is because plaque or cholesterol does not tell the whole picture. And that's because if your arteries can't expand due to inflammation (too much Omega-6s) then you're far more likely to have a cardiovascular event. So, by increasing your Omega-3 levels to balance your Omega-6s your overall cardiovascular and health profile should improve. This same test can be used to help inflammatory muscle/joint pain, skin, nervous system issues, energy, mood, and much more.

Stress, Mood & Metabolism Test
Losing weight has less to do with the amount of calories you eat or how much you exercise, and everything to do with hormone balance, cortisol levels, and metabolism. By looking at the hidden inflammatory triggers and hormone imbalances we can discover what is holding you back from the body you want and the results you deserve.
